Communications Technician I - Tampa, FL

Description The selected candidate will perform beginning-level communications work dispatching calls for police or fire service. Training will be provided in the various aspects of communications work.
Under general supervision, the selected applicant must be able to exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining how to respond to requests for service. An important aspect of this position is the ability to respond to emergencies in a controlled and expeditious manner. In addition, selected candidates will maintain the service status of all mobile units for assigned area, dispatch units by radio through the use of signal codes, record emergency calls or complaints, maintain records, operate a video terminal and a teletype, and perform related work as required.
Applicants must be willing and able to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. In addition, applicants must be willing and able to deal effectively and professionally with all types of people under very difficult circumstances, and be able to simultaneously handle a variety of tasks.
Requirements
A high school or vocational school diploma; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. In addition, keyboarding skills are required. Preference may be given to individuals with previous dispatching experience or individuals with bilingual skills (English/Spanish). A character and background investigation will be conducted on candidates who are selected for employment. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment medical examinations.
