Description Employees of this class are responsible for the protection of life and property through firefighting activities and administration of emergency first-aid to the EMT level. The work requires performance of extremely physically demanding tasks often for extended periods and under unpleasant, stressful and/or hazardous conditions. Work includes responses via mobile fire suppression apparatus to calls or reports of actual, possible or potential occurrence of fire, explosion, uncontained hazardous and volatile material and chemical contamination of other property and/or life threatening emergency conditions; utilization/operation of equipment, e.g., pumpers, aerial ladders, hoses, hooks, lines, fans, pumps, backboards, dressings and splints; cleaning, servicing and maintaining equipment and assigned apparatus; participation in drills, classes, seminars or other training sessions in firefighting, first-aid or related subjects. All work methods and results are subject to continuous inspection for accuracy and conformance with instructions and departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements
(1) Excellent physical condition; (2) U.S. Citizenship; (3) Attainment of the age twenty-one (21) years on or before 11/15/2008. (4) Ability/willingness to obtain State of Washington, Department of Social and Health Services, certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within two years of employment and maintain such certification for the duration of employment. (5) Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Washington State driver license and the ability to maintain it for the duration of employment.
