Police Communications Dispatcher (Univ. of Chicago) - Chicago, IL

Description
The Communications Police Dispatcher receives, evaluates and transmits telephone and radio calls for University Police and emergency assistance in order to dispatch personnel and equipment according to standard operational procedure. Obtains and records all information regarding type of emergency or incident, exact location and other pertinent information. Monitors Law Enforcement Agency Data System. Keeps supervisor informed of general activities and emergency calls or situations. Maintains radio contact with all field units. Maintains accurate records of requests for service and other departmental activities. Sends and receives teletype messages. Performs general support duties related to dispatch activities including record keeping, typing and filing. Instructs other personnel in the techniques and use of the department's communication equipment.

Requirements
High school diploma or GED required; Law Enforcement Agency Data System certified or eligible for certification training required; minimum of one year clerical, public information, public contact, or emergency service work, including radio and telephone communications work preferred; knowledge of law enforcement and emergency services preferred; knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Windows required; excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
