The Board of the Fire and Police Commission of the City of Mt. Vernon, Illinois is seeking applicants for the position of Firefighter to establish an eligibility list. Testing will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018. This includes physical agility and written test following.
Firefighters must become paramedics if not already. City pays for schooling to become paramedics if not already. Most of the City’s calls are for EMS.
Firefighters work 24 hours on, 48 hours off, including holidays.
Requirements are: high school diploma or GED equivalent; between the ages of 21 and 35 years on date of test (or meet Illinois Public Act 97-0251 previous employment requirements); U.S. citizen; and valid driver’s license.
Starting salary is approximately $52,000 per year (including holiday pay) with City benefits package.
