High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Possession of a current valid Emergency Medical Technician Certificate issued by the State of California or by an EMT certifying agency approved by the State of California; County of San Diego EMT System ID Card; Certificate for Basic Life Support for the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Provider at time of application.
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Possession of a valid California Paramedic License is highly desirable.
Completion of an accredited Firefighter I Fire Academy is highly desirable.
Ability to: Learn technical firefighting principles and techniques; to understand and follow oral and written directions; to participate in a variety of work assignments; to function under conditions of high stress in training or emergency environments; to be part of a team, and work and live cooperatively with others.
A candidate must be able to meet the current medical and physical conditions that might adversely affect their ability to perform the duties of a National City Firefighter.
