Suffolk Fire & Rescue is interested in hiring experienced Firefighters readily equipped with the training, experience and knowledge required to be a Suffolk Firefighter. Below are the minimum qualifications and special requirements necessary to be hired as a Firefighter:
Be at least 18 years old at time of application.
Be a high school graduate, or have your GED. Preference points will be awarded for candidates with a degree or at least 60 credit hours from a regionally accredited college. Transcripts will be required for application submittal.
Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter II certification, or the ability to gain reciprocity.
Successfully completed a full time firefighter recruit academy.
Worked as a full time firefighter within the last 5-7 years.
Be currently certified as an Emergency Medical Technician – Enhanced or Advanced Certification by the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to gain reciprocity within 30 days of the job offer.
Possess a valid Driver’s license with -3 points or better.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Must not smoke nor utilize smoking materials or tobacco or must be willing to stop the use of such in accordance with the “Conditions of Employment” signed on the first day of employment if hired.
