Current Police Officers
Currently employed as a full-time Police Officer with at least 1-year of full-time experience? Want to work in an environment where you know your fellow Officers but yet have the ability to respond to a wide variety of calls? Then the City of De Pere is the place for you! In 2018 the City of De Pere began a lateral transfer program for Police Officers. This program is designed to allow current officers with at least 1 year of full-time experience to join the City of De Pere at an elevated entry level salary.

1-5 years equivalent experience – start rate up to $63,804 annual base
5-10 years equivalent experience – start rate up to $68,004 annual base
10+ years equivalent experience – start rate up to $72,444 annual base

In addition, the City of De Pere has condensed the recruitment process – this means fewer trips to De Pere and less time away from work. Candidates being considered for a lateral transfer will participate in an interview with the department and Police and Fire Commission on the same day. Following the interviews, the Police Department may begin the background process on the top candidate(s). Lateral transfer employees may be exempt from the physical abilities testing.

New Police Officers
If you are new to the Police field or still working on your degree, the City of De Pere encourages you to apply. The City of De Pere offers an extensive field training program for those that are new to the field.

The City of De Pere may sponsor candidates through the Law Enforcement Academy. The wage rate while attending the Law Enforcement Academy is expected to be $16.53 – $22.68/hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Upon graduation from the Law Enforcement Academy, the recruit will become a Police Officer with the City of De Pere.

Top Patrol Salary (5 years) – $77,220

Recruitment Schedule
Applications will be accepted on a continual basis with the recruitment process completed as needed throughout the year. The basic recruitment process will consist of a written test, interview with the department and an interview with the Police and Fire Commission. The Police and Fire Commission will establish an eligibility list. When a vacancy occurs, the Police Chief will initiate the background process, which may include a physical abilities test.

The De Pere Police Department has a number of specialty positions within the agency that include School Liaison Officers, K9 Officer, Community Resource Officer and Traffic Officer. The De Pere Police Department is part of the Brown County multi agency SWAT Team, Brown County multi Field Force Team, Brown County Drug Task Force, and Brown County Arson Task Force.
